What do you want in the next season of your career...?

Hello beautiful human

As we start to move to hibernation mode [side note: that is absolutely me right now times one hundred!], there’s a wonderful opportunity for renewal available.

In truth, many of us women are continuously participating in the flow of renewal, with our monthly cycle.

I love this poem by Tania Hart. Well it was an IG post haha, but for me it was the perfect poem.

We unravel to become, contract to expand, decay to bloom.

This is sacred work. This is what we were made to do.

I love this so much.

It can be so easy for us to think that in moments of unravelling, or contraction, or decay that we are failing somehow.

It is so far from our truth.

The truth of our nature, and by that I mean NATURE is one of opposite states of being, of change and renewal.

Each moment of unravelling helps us to build stronger foundations to step into who we are.

Each moment of contraction is moment of contraction is usually followed by an expansion.

Just before I left Shazam I felt stuck in a contraction and knew it was time for a bigger challenge. I’d tried to position myself for a broader role (that didn’t exist haha) and failed. I loved the company and the people in it, but I felt myself shrinking.

In those moments I asked myself what I really wanted.

The truth was that I was frustrated by all the amazing People initiatives that we could be doing but weren’t, I realised that it had to be me setting the strategy if I wanted to influence that. So that meant being in charge.

It was time for a new role where I headed up the whole People function. Often when we are in a Talent role, we are pushed to take a step back in order to expand - contraction - but in the end I didn’t need to contract any further.

It took about 6 months to get there, but my commitment to seeking it, meant that the Universe presented an opportunity to me in the form of a VP People role at Onfido, leading a team of 15.

It was a baptism of fire, and a little like a supercharged grad scheme… but I did it. I expanded to meet the challenge.

There were many seasons in that role, but the flow was the same. Unravel a bit… become even bigger. Get a bit of imposter syndrome and shrink… figure out how to build more confidence.

And to the final element that Tania mentions… decaying to Bloom.

Well, my beautiful sisters. We know what it means to do that. We’ve all had moments and seasons of decay.

We don’t Bloom once, we do it every season. And the beauty is even more powerful when we do it together.

It is and will always be either our time to Bloom or to embrace the moments of decay in order to prep for what is to come.

Is it time to start embracing where you are right now to make way for what you want in the next season of your career...?
